The District of North and Milldle Andaman was created during August 2006 and has its jurisdiction from Baratang to Diglipur. The total area of this District is 3483 Sq.Km and its population is 105539 as per Census 2011. It has 2 Sub-Divisions namely Diglipur and Mayabunder comprising of 3 Tehsils, i.e., Rangat, Mayabunder & Diglipur. There are 104 Revenue Villages.

The entire district is rural area of Andaman & Nicobar Islands and there are many unexplored attractions available for the tourists to discover in North & Middle Andaman District. How to Reach and other details about North & Middle Andaman:

The National Highway [NH-4] is connecting the capital city Port Blair of Andaman & Nicobar Islands to the North & Middle Andaman. The national Highway starts from Chidiyatapu [0.00 km] in South Andaman District to Diglipur in North & Middle Andaman [333.00 Km- foothill of Saddle Peak].

The Journey towards North & Middle Andaman by road starts from Port Blair and to reach next point, the Jirkatang Check post, it takes about 1½ hrs to 2 hrs. Beyond this check post is the reserve forest and inside the forest vehicles move strictly in convoy. There are four convoys in a day and Convoy timing from Port Blair towards North & Middle Andaman are 6.00 AM, 9.00 AM, 12.00 PM & 2.30 PM. After leaving the Jirkatang Check post the next stop is at Middle Strait Jetty. It takes about 1.30 hrs to reach Middle Strait from Jirkatang Check Post. Simillarly for returning from Middle Strait also there are only four convoys and the convoy timings are 6.30AM, 9.30 AM, 12.30Pm and 3.00 PM.

Across the creek is the Baratang Island. Baratang Island is the gateway of North & Middle Andaman District. There are Govt. and private accommodation (basic to 3 star accommodations) available for stay in Baratang Island. The tourists spots in and around Baratang Island are Baludera Beach, Parrot Island, Mud Volcano site, Lime Stone Caves etc. Merk Bay and Lalaji Bay beaches are also accessible from Baratang, which are one of the nicest unexplored beaches in North & Middle Andaman District. In Baratang Island activities such as trekking, Bird watching, village tours etc. can be explored with Andaman Vacations.

Moving further towards north from Baratang we reach the next stop which is called Gandhighat Jetty. Like Middle Strait at the other end of Baratang Island is the Humphrey Strait. This creek also is of around 600 meters width and there are vehicle ferries continuously plying to cross Humphrey Strait. Across the creek is Middle Andaman. And the first point we reach in the Middle Andaman Island is Uttara Jetty. Uttara Jetty is harbour area near to Kadamtala Village.

From Uttara Jetty it takes around 1½ hrs to 2 hrs to reach the next destination i.e.Rangat. There are Govt. and private accommodation (basic accommodation) available for stay in Rangat. The tourists spots in and around Rangat are Amkunj Beach, Curt bert Bay Beach, Moris Dera etc.. In Rangat activities such as trekking, Bird watching, village tours etc. can be explored with Andaman Vacations. The curt bert Bay beach is also famous for turtle nesting. The season for turtle nesting is January – February of every year. Rangat is also connected by boat service (Govt.) from Port Blair.

Moving further towards North of the Andaman & Nicobar Islands from Rangat the next destination is Mayabunder. It takes around 1 ½ hrs to reach Mayabunder from Rangat. There are Govt. and private accommodation available for stay in Mayabunder. The tourists spots in and around Mayabunder are Avis Island, Karmatanag Beach, Rampur Beach etc.. In Mayabunder activities such as trekking, Bird watching, village tours etc. can be explored with Andaman Vacations network. Maybunder is also connected by boat service (Govt.) from Port Blair.

Moving further towards North of the Andaman & Nicobar Islands from Maybunder the next destination is Diglipur. It takes around 1 ½ hrs to reach Diglipur from Mayabunder. There are Govt. and private accommodation available for stay in Diglipur. The tourists spots in and around Diglipur are Ross & Smith Island, Kalipur Beach, Ramnagar Beach, Kalpong Dam, Saddle Peak etc..
